Colman’s produced starch products from the mid-19th century onwards. This sign's minimalist style of white background and bold blue lettering was focused on maximum legibility outside shops and general stores rather than decoration

Condition Some enamel loss around fixing holes but crucially the field (white and lettering) is bright and largely intact, including sign manufacturer mark
